For many parents it can be difficult to broach this touchy subject of bras when teen angst seems to dictate the actions and moods of everyone in the household. The dreaded discussion needs to take place, eventually, but when, and how should it happen? How does a parent know what type of bra to get and in what size?
Pick the Right Time to Start the Conversation on Getting a Bra
For most girls, breast development starts between the ages of 8 and 13, with some beginning earlier or later depending on genetics, weight and ethnicity. It may be some time before breasts grow enough to need the support of a bra. The most important thing is to be aware of feelings. If it’s no big deal, run with it, but if things seem in any way uncomfortable, be sensitive to that too.
Determine the Need for a Training Bra
Some girls want a bra but don't need one. Even though the need is minimal, girls may start asking for a bra, or at least start dropping hints of interest with an off-hand comment that friends are wearing them now.
