The first of its kind in terms of computer animation and special effects, Avatar is a story of modern capitalist society meeting an indigenous people in an attempt to take over their land and mine for the rich raw materials held there. The plot is set in the distant future on the planet of Pandora and the events evolve around the paraplegic war veteran, Jake and his journey as he is torn between his duty as a soldier and his newly found appreciation for the nature-dwelling Na'vi.

This movie explores issues regarding race and poverty as the story of homeless man, Michael Oher who is taken in by a wealthy white family unfolds. As both parties learn from the other, the main character becomes a successful All-American offensive left tackle.
