The Mormon Church continues to remain hidden from society, questioned for its past doctrine principles. Yet, it continues to grow and thrive, steadily increasing its membership. One may ask, “What are some of the beliefs of the Mormon Church and why has Mormonism been such a controversial religion?”
Beliefs of the Mormon People
The religious doctrine of Mormonism is comprised of traditional Christian and current secular themes with primitive values. For instance in the place of the God of Christianity, Mormonism had developed the notion of a self-made deity, who through activism and effort has achieved a relative mastery over the world. In the place of the transcendent God of the more orthodox faiths, Mormonism proclaims a God whose transcendence is merely relative to human perception and whose relatively transcendent position with regard to man and other uncreated elements of the universe is the result of a conquest. God is God because he has risen to “Godhood” by his own labor.
In terms of man and his place in the universe, Mormonism believes that man was also with God in the beginning. They believe that an eternal man existed before life on earth began. However they do believe that man is the offspring of God.
